Shanghai Min is a great restaurant for Shanghai food in my opinion. It is best for group dining if you want to order large portion dishes. For dinner of just me and my mom, we order a minced chicken that is sauteed with chopped vermicelli and pine nuts, eaten with a crispy sesame puff. The soup bun with pork filling is seared to crisp at the bottom, and best to serve with dark vinegar. So as the xiao long baos, with generous amount of hairy crab roe filled in thin dumpling wrappers.
I particularly like the mochi cake which is served with osmanthus honey on top. It is chewy, sticky and not overly sweet at all. A very light but refreshing ending of the meal.
The other night, we have a set meal for six with my Grandparents. There is my favourite deep fried fish in a sweet and sour sauce made with pine nuts, but is quite upset about the longevity buns as they are filled with red bean instead of lotus paste.
