Eating with hands sounds clean or dirty? It depends. But at this lively, new and old neighborhood, the Chef of Hawker Fare asks to begin the basket of sticky rice with your right hand.
Hawker Fare is a trendy and graffiti-lined restaurant where serves specially designed whilst local and organic Asian street food. Specifically, the menu covers mostly Thai cuisine which is usually made with tons of spices, meats, veggies but in appropriate portion. All cooked with cares, fresh ingredients and in family style, these hawker dishes are comparatively high ended to what you get from the street.
To cover one of their popular dishes, the 24 hours pork belly is braised naturally tender, with alternative fatty and meaty layers smothered in the strongly flavored sauce. The sauce is spiced fantastically and I love the added Chinese choy sum and flavors coming from the cilantro.
Believe me, it is amazing to pair with a bowl of steamed jasmine rice with an additional sunny side up egg on top.
A dessert to die for is definitely their signature sundae. The lovely combination of condensed milk soft serve that is made with straus organic dairy, salty caramelized palm sugar, candied red beans and crispy rice puffs; further kicked up with a refreshing dollop of lime whip topping, this Hawker sundae is undoubtedly a thing to eat before you die!
This Oakland fusion is very innovative and much appreciated.
