Zhen is a new restaurant set opened near the neighbourhood of Sai Wan, just down Hill Road from our HKU campus. It serves contemporary dim sum, with both traditional Chinese fare and modern Western approaches. They interpret with some Western ingredients and putting an adorable presentation on them.
This afternoon, we start with a cold appetizer, blanched okra served with soy sauce and wasabi dip. The cute little panda custard bun is impressively made with an excellent lava center that has just spilled all over the plate, whilst the piggy barbecue pork bun is also fluffy and beautiful.
Some favourites are the deep fried taro puffs with flavorful minced stuffing, shaped like little ducklings; seafood dumplings served with a signature lobster bisque; and the steamed pot rice with chicken, cordyceps flower, and a sweet soy sauce on the side.
To finish, the sweet cake cheers us off for its unbeatable peanut, coconut and sesame seed coating.
